Ganesh Tok Temple is located on a hillock on Gangtok Nathula Road. Ganesh Tok is a very small temple devoted to Lord Ganesh. This temple can hardly accommodate one person as well as one has to crawl to get inside it.
History
The actual meaning of the word ‘Tok’ is ‘temple’ in the local language so it translates as the Ganesh Temple. The quaint and vivid Hindu temple, constructed in 1953 offers visitors panoramic views of the snow-dusted Kanchenjunga hills and the Gangtok city.
Importance
Ganesh Tok is quite small, and you need to climb stairs to reach the upper degrees where the viewing area is situated. Midway through the staircases, you will be called to take your footwear off. The internal sanctum of the temple is so small that the devotees are required to crawl on all fours to reach Lord Ganpati. There is a watching lounge with glass panels and a balcony to provide better views. From the balcony, you can view the snow-covered mountains including Kanchenjunga, and also the rolling hills.
Architecture
The internal Sanctorum of Ganesh Tok is so small that any devotee has to crawl to reach Lord Ganapati in the temple. The scenic beauty of the hills has increased the popularity of the temple more than its architectural qualities.
