Chitrakoot Shakti Peeth is located in Chitrakoot (Ramgiri) in Uttar Pradesh. It is also called Ramgiri Shakti Peeth. This Shaktipeeth is also famous as Maa Shivani Shakti Peeth among locals. Chitrakoot town is home to many historical temples mentioned in Hindu Scriptures. The Chitrakoot area borders Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh.
History & Importance
The chief legend of Chitrakoot relates to the creation of the Shakti Peethas. Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksha, was married to the god Shiva versus his wishes. Daksha arranged a great yajna but did not invite Sati and Shiva. Uninvited, Sati reached the Yajna site, where Daksha ignored Sati as well as Shiva.
Sati was not able to withstand this insult. So, Devi Sati gave her life by jumping into the fire of Havan organized by her father King Daksh. When Lord Shiva was running around the planet carrying her body Lord Vishnu divided the body into 51 parts utilizing his Sudarshan chakra. Out of those 51 parts, from which the ‘Right breast’ of Sati fell to this place. The idol of Devi is known as Shivani and Lord Shiva is known as Chanda.
Chitrakoot temple is believed as an incredibly spiritual place. Lord Rama, Sita Devi, and Lakshmana are believed to have spent eleven and a half years in these forests out of their fourteen years of exile. Numerous sages, and seers such as Atri, Sati Anusuya, Dattatreya, Maharishi Markandeya, Darbhanga, and Sutikshna have practiced meditation here. Lord Brahma, Vishnu, and Maheswar also took their versions here.
It is also believed when Lord Rama performed the Shraddha ceremony of his father, all the goddesses and gods came to Chitrakuta to take part in the Shuddhi (i.e. a feast offered to all the loved ones and friends on the thirteenth day of the death in the family). The very first known mention of Chitrakoot is within Valmiki Ramayana. Mahakavi Kalidasa explains Chitrakoot as Ramgiri due to his Bhakti to Lord Rama. Tulsidas, the saint-poet of Hindi is believed to have had darshan of Lord Ram at Chitrakoot.

- By Train: Direct trains are available to Chitrakoot Railway station and many more trains Fly directly from Delhi to here.
- By Road: So many deluxe bus services are available to Chitrakoot and they are worth trying, if you are not getting a reservation on the train.
