The temple has a serene environment that will immediately calm your senses. God can actually be achieved in that environment once you hear the chiming of temple bells and the chanting of mantras fusing together with your religion. The Temple is considered one of the 51 Shakti Peethas in Ketugram, West Bengal.
History and Significance
Devi Sati gave her life by jumping into the fire of Havan organized by her father King Daksheshwara. When Lord Shiva was running around the planet carrying her body Lord Vishnu divided the body into 51 parts utilizing his Sudarshan chakra. Out of those 51 parts, from which the ‘left arm’ of Sati fell to this place. ‘Bahu’ in Sanskrit incidentally means ‘arm’. ‘Bahula’, on the other hand, means lavish and refers to the prosperity that this goddess brings.
Bahula Shakti Peetha is just one from where devotees haven’t left empty-handed. She’s thought to give the wishes of all those who approach her with genuine longing in their hearts. Instances of wonders are rampant here.
There are a lot of other vital temples around this Shakti Peetha which you may go to. Take, for instance, the Kokaleshwari Kali Mandir (goddess of the skulls), the Sarvamangala Shrine, and the Shivlingam Temple That’s dedicated to Lord Shiva. You might even visit Raman Bagan, it is a deer park or the Meghnad Saha Planetarium.
Temple Idol/ Deity
Bahula Devi is seen accompanied by her sons Karthikey and Ganesha. Karthik is the god of fertility and war whereas Ganesh is the one who brings a note of auspicious elements into the world.
The goddess Bahula is worshipped along with the Bhairav Bhiruk and both are said to be manifestations of Mahadev and Mata Adi Shakti. ‘Bhiruk’ means one who has attained the highest levels of meditation or ‘sarvasiddhayak’.
