Panch Sagar Shaktipeeth temple is located in the Indian state of Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi. The temple is also known as Varahi Devi temple. Panchasagar Shakti Peeth is among the 51 Shakti Peeth of Maa Sati. Panch Sagar Shaktipeeth is one of the main religious places for Hindus.
History
The chief legend of Panchsagar relates to the creation of the Shakti Peethas. Sati, the daughter of Prajapati Daksha, was married to the god Shiva despite his wishes. Daksha arranged a great yajna but did not invite Sati and Shiva. Uninvited, Sati reached the Yajna site, where Daksha ignored Sati as well as Shiva.
Sati was not able to withstand this insult. So, Devi Sati gave her life by jumping into the fire of Havan organized by her father King Daksh. When Lord Shiva was running around the planet carrying her body Lord Vishnu divided the body into 51 parts utilizing his Sudarshan chakra. Out of those 51 parts, from which the ‘Lower Teeth’ of Sati fell to this place. Here Sati is called varahi and Lord Shiva is called Maharudra.
The history of this place dates back to the time when it is said that the Lower teeth of Maa Sati fell to this place. Alternatively, according to the Matsya Purana, it is also believed that Maa Varahi was created by Lord Shiva from the incarnation of Lord Vishnu –Varah (boar form) to kill a demon, who is mainly worshipped at nocturnal.
Importance
Panchsagar Varahi Shaktipeeth can be believed among the most special Shaktipeeths in India. Considering that this temple is worshiped by all 3 branches of Sanatana Dharma– Vaishnavism, Shaivism, and Shaktism, this is.
Lord Shiva, Lord Vishnu, and Adi Shakti Devi– all 3 are worshipped here. This temple is also special because it is open for 2 hours only, between 05:30 AM to 07:30 AM. The temple stays closed for the entire day. It is believed Maa Varahi defends Varanasi during the night. The name ‘Varahi’ is also related to the Varaha Avatar of Lord Vishnu. Maa varahi is also among the Sapta-Matrikas.

The Buddhist deities Vajravarahi and Marichi are strongly believed to have their origins in the Hindu deity Varahi. It is well explained in Devi Mahatmya in the context of the Shumbha-Nishumbha Vadh from the Markandeya Purana spiritual texts, the Matrikas Goddesses look like Shaktis from the bodies of the Gods. The scriptures believe that Varahi was made from Varaha. She has a boar form, holds a chakra (discus), and battles with a sword. After the fight described in the Purana, the Matrikas danced & drunk on their victim’s blood.
